Design notes: Luca Guadagnino's design studio, SLG, founded in 2017 by the Oscar-nominated director, focuses on interior architecture with the same narrative power, spatial mastery, and use of color seen in his films. Rooted in mid-century Italian design, SLG specializes in contemporary projects for both private clients and luxury commercial spaces. Recognized in Phaidon's "By Design: The World’s Best Contemporary Designers," SLG recently won the 2022 Silver Lion for directing "Bones and All" and showcased its works at Milan's Fuorisalone exhibition "Accanto al Fuoco/By the Fire". The villa is featured in World of Interiors May 2024 edition
Ann-Marie's comment: A delicious villa in every sense.... a true mingling of an original vibe with how we like to live now. It's simply stunning
Further information about this apartment
In the 20s and 30s the Lido was the summer destination of the wealthy European establishment. Vestiges of its glorious past are still visible in the gorgeous Liberty villas dotting the island. In today’s age, the tourists who enjoy this great barrier island enclosing the lagoon and facing the Adriatic Sea are a bit less pretentious, nevertheless the Lido continues to be a fun and relaxing place to be, only 10 minutes from San Marco.

When Luca Guadagnino casually told an interviewer that he'd love to branch out into interiors, one man who read the article very obligingly granted him that break. Fast-forward a few years, and the director was asked to lend his cinematic eye to a forlorn fin-de-siècle villa on Venice's famed Lido. Spoiler alert: his adaptation has made a bigger splash than the owners could have wished for.
