Return to apartments in Venice
An exquisite and comfortable piano nobile apartment opposite the Gritti with Grand Canal views
Imperiale at a glance
An impressive renovation has returned this three bedroom four bathroom apartment to its original splendour so that, when entering this apartment, time reverts to the heady days of the XVII Century, when noble Venetians openly displayed their wealth by means of monumental architecture and lavishly extravagant interiors. Its central location, close to the Piazza San Marco and the famous shopping street Via XXII Marzo, is one of the best in Venice.
Property Description
The apartment’s current breathtaking form is the outcome of a painstaking restoration, and demonstrates the ingenuity of its owners, an English classical Architect and his wife.
Imperiale is on the main piano nobile of the 17th century Palazzo Grimani, which bears the name of the notable Venetian family who originally occupied it, before it became Venice’s bridge club for many years.
Behind the elegant and imposing white facade, two half flights of stairs lead to the apartment’s entrance. Two double doors open up onto a stunning central ballroom, with original stucco mouldings, delicately frescoed ceilings, and grandiose gilt mirrors. Six extensive French windows at the front of the room open onto a long balcony facing the lovely square and the Gritti Palace Hotel, while also enjoying Grand Canal views.
To the left of the central salon is the formal dining room with stately dinner table for ten (up to 14) and spectacular central Murano crystal chandelier. The original stuccoes showcase a variety of musical instruments, which points to the fact that this was almost certainly originally the music room, or sala della musica. From here, an intimate breakfast area leads to a very well equipped kitchen with sage-green cabinetry, and a guest powder room which is useful for invited friends to use.
The Master Bedroom: the master bedroom features a magnificent antique four poster bed and private sitting area. The bathroom with tub and shower is en-suite.
The Biedermeyer Bedroom: the second bedroom is furnished in Biedermeyer style and boasts its own private dressing room with large walk-in shower.
Additional sleeping spaces: there is a further space for 2 people with additional shower room, as well as mezzanine sitting areas for a total of 6 persons to relax over the varied spaces in this extensive apartment.
Everything in this apartment, from its original period furnishings to tableware and bedding has been attentively selected for private use by Imperiale’s detail-orientated owners. Marble bathrooms and modern conveniences such as integral air conditioning, rain showerheads, wireless speakers etc. project this historic residence into the modern era, while all modernity is cleverly hidden from view. An incredible design achievement.

Further information about this apartment
This is the historical centre of the town with Piazza San Marco at its very heart and with Venice’s most coveted museums: Palazzo Ducale and Museo Correr. The buildings in this area of town are all on a fabulously grand scale. You will find most of the designer shops and luxury brands around here, including a number of fine jewellers and designers hidden among the colonnades of the piazza itself. The best time to visit is in the evening when the sun sets over the curved domes of St. Mark’s Basilica and live music sweeps across the piazza, defined by Napoleon as the “finest drawing room in Europe”.

Superb property, wonderful location and the host (Pietro) was exceptionally helpful and kind. Really, really excellent experience. We extended our stay, and rebooked to return before we had even left.Pietro helped us with advice, water taxis etc. All perfect.
PS
Amazing. Many of the famous buildings in Venice one usually has to queue to get a glimpse into their inside are unimpressive in comparison to Imperiale. This noble apartment is full of history and authenticity but also has many clever design features and architectural accents reflecting its famous architect owner. You wander from room to room and soak in the atmosphere. On top of this it is perfectly equipped and has a real five star feeling to it. Lastly, Pietro who looks after you is wonderful, accommodating, caring and assists you in any possible request making your stay in Venice perfect."
Congratulations on a very successful stay - Please pass on the good news to your staff!

We have just had an amazing few days at Imperiale - booking couldn't have been easier. The apartment is in an excellent location and a dream to reach by water bus or water taxi. The apartment surpassed our expectations, on all fronts, but particularly the interiors which are spectacular and immediately transport you to another time: glad to say that the comfort level remains very much in modern times, with lovely design touches and some very interesting books. Just how classic Venice should be.
